IP Passthrough

IP Passthrough on a router from an ISP means the router bridges all traffic through to whatever is on the other side (whatever device is connected to the routers LAN port). This is useful if you have a device connected to the router and you want the global IP address from WAN on the router. This setup makes port forwarding much easier for example.

IP Passthrough mode, simply stated, disables the router functionality and provides the cellular WAN address directly to one attached network client.

IP Passthrough mode is available on Wlink cellular router.

IP Passthrough mode in Wlink router shares or passes the IP address assigned by 4G/3G to an internal router, firewall (Cisco, juniper, etc...) or computer, it is suitable for the device need to obtain WAN IP address directly.

The IP Passthrough feature allows a single device connected to the LAN of the router to have 4G/3G IP address assigned. It also provides port address translation (PAT) or network address and port translation (NAPT) via the 4G/3G IP address. The 4G/3G IP is assigned and reused on a LAN computer.

Below is the IP Passthrough Setup example on WLINK 4G router.

Please Note:

PC need to be configured as DHCP mode. Once PC that receives the 4G/3G IP address will no longer be able to access router’s GUI. Likewise, as your router will continue to operate its DHCP service, if you intend to use IP Passthrough for a third party router, it is recommended that you move all of your local connections to the third party device.
